The all-new Stinger – coming Autumn 2017
Kia Stinger GT – From concept to concrete
A picture says a thousand words. Kia are on a mission to change people’s perception of the brand, steering away from being more than just a reliable family car manufacturer. Employing Peter Schreyer as chief of design has certainly shaken things up with the new Stinger GT - a car built to rival the likes of the big German sports tourers such as the BMW 4series Gran Coupe.
Kia stole Schreyer, (the man behind the Audi TT and the new VW Beetle) away from the Volkswagen group in 2006. Since then he’s designed the current Kia family cars and is responsible for the new “tiger-nose” grille.
The new Stinger GT made a lasting impression at the North American International Auto Show back in January on its world debut, picking up two awards. Cars.com named it best in show for its combination of luxury and performance in a sports sedan. Also awarded was the EyesOn Design award for production car design excellence.
Stunning on the outside
The exterior is fast and sleek with strong rear wheel drive proportions and exudes disarming confidence. Longer and wider than a BMW 4 series Gran Coupe, with a longer wheelbase than the Lexus GS. It shares a similar menacing silhouette with the likes of the Jaguar XF.
Sleek and sophisticated inside
Minimal yet luxurious. The interior features aircraft-style spoked vents, metal-ringed gauges, and satin Chrome trim. Ultra-soft Nappa leather covers the deeply bolstered seats and the driver’s seat even has adjustable bolsters for outstanding comfort
“From its GT concept-car origins to the years of tuning and refining on the legendary Nurburgring circuit, no detail was too small to be obsessed over.”
- Orth Hedrick, VP of Product Planning, Kia Motors America
It can talk the talk, but can it walk the walk?
Albert Biermann, former BMW M division VP has made sure it packs a punch with exceptional handling. Now on board with Kia as the head of Vehicle Test & high performance development, he and his team have developed the superior ride and handling of the Stinger. The GT will be the first Kia saloon to be available with AWD and features a new dynamic stability damping control suspension that adapts to your driving.
Heart pounding performance
The Stinger will offer the choice of two turbo-charged engines both paired with an 8 speed automatic gearbox. There’s the 360bhp 3.3 litre V6 capable of 0-62mph in 5.1 seconds, or you can opt for the 2.0Litre 255bhp engine. All this power requires some serious braking ability. Brembo® vented discs with quad-piston front callipers and dual piston rears are just what the doctor ordered.
